Surf, paddle and explore with Aber Adventures

A holiday beside Cardigan Bay provides plenty of opportunities to look at the water. Aber Adventures gives you the chance to get into it.

Based around Borth and the surrounding area, Aber Adventures offers surf lessons, stand-up paddleboard tuition and kayak hire. Sessions are available for complete beginners as well as people looking to improve existing skills, with instruction tailored to different abilities and goals.

This means you do not need to arrive carrying a surfboard, speaking fluent surfer or knowing exactly what you are doing. Qualified instructors, suitable equipment and warm wetsuits help make the experience approachable for first-time participants.

The company also holds the Disability Sport Wales INSPORT Ribbon standard and encourages people with additional requirements to contact the team to discuss suitable activities.

What could you try?

Surf lessons are an obvious choice when the waves cooperate. Paddleboarding offers a different way to explore the water, while sit-on-top kayaks provide another enjoyable option for suitable conditions.

Activities depend on the weather and sea conditions, and locations may vary. Advance booking is strongly recommended so the team can arrange the right session, equipment and meeting point.

Be warned: learning to stand on a surfboard may lead to dramatic poses, competitive behaviour and the sudden belief that you should move to the coast permanently.

Pen y Graig tip: Book early during school holidays and ask what clothing or footwear you need to bring before arriving.
