Constitution Hill and Aberystwyth Cliff Railway

At the northern end of Aberystwyth promenade, Constitution Hill rises steeply above the sea. You can walk to the summit, but Aberystwyth Cliff Railway provides a much more relaxing alternative.

The railway carries visitors from the bottom of the hill to the summit, avoiding the climb while still delivering the reward. From the top, you can enjoy wide views across Aberystwyth, Cardigan Bay and the surrounding coast.

On a clear day, this is one of the best places from which to appreciate the town’s position between the sea and the hills. On a misty day, it can feel atmospheric and mysterious, which is another way of saying the weather occasionally has other plans.

More than a viewpoint

Constitution Hill also offers indoor family activities, including games, pool, air hockey and ten-pin bowling, alongside places to stop for refreshments.

That makes it possible to combine the railway and views with a longer visit rather than simply travelling up, taking a photograph and coming straight back down.
