Beach walks from Borth
You do not need complicated equipment or an ambitious itinerary to enjoy Borth. Sometimes the best holiday activity is simply choosing a direction and walking beside the sea.

The long beach stretches north from the village towards Ynyslas, providing plenty of opportunities for gentle walks. Depending on the tide and conditions, you can wander along the sand, return through the village or continue towards the dunes and nature reserve.
The Wales Coast Path also passes through the area, opening up longer and more demanding routes along the Ceredigion coast. The national trail follows the Welsh coastline and can be joined for anything from a short stroll to a full day’s walk.
Three ways to explore
For an easy outing, walk along Borth beach and return when you are ready. There is no prize for reaching a particular point, and turning back in time for lunch is an entirely respectable walking strategy.
For a longer, flatter walk, continue north towards Ynyslas and enjoy views across the estuary.
More experienced walkers can follow the coast south towards Aberystwyth. This is a much more substantial route with climbs, uneven ground and exposed coastal sections, so suitable footwear, food, water and sensible planning are essential.
Always check the tide, weather and route conditions before setting out. Keep away from cliff edges and do not rely on the beach as a return route if the incoming tide could cut you off.
Pen y Graig tip: Sunset walks can be spectacular, but remember that the walk back becomes considerably darker once the sun has performed its grand finale.
